ACTOR PROFILE

NICOLAS CAGE

High off of the success of his latest movie, knowing, the always interesting Nicolas cage is the man again. I wasn’t too sure what to make of him after Bangkok dangerous, but I actually dug the new flick. I’ve always been a fan of his, from raising Arizona. He’s definitely unafraid to take chances, & I absolutely respect him for that. As a lover of all things cinema I wanted to profile him, from his beginnings as a child, to his meteoric rise to fame, the ups, downs, & everything inbetween. enjoy

Mini Biography

The son of comparative literature professor August Coppola (a brother of director Francis Ford Coppola) and dancer/choreographer Joy Vogelsang, Cage changed his name early in his career to make his own reputation, succeeding brilliantly with a host of classic, quirky roles by the late 1980s.

Initially studying theatre at Beverly Hills High (though he dropped out at 17), he secured a bit part in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) -- most of which was cut, dashing his hopes and leading to a job selling popcorn at the Fairfax Theater, thinking that would be the only route to a movie career. But a job reading lines with auditioners for uncle Francis' Rumble Fish (1983) landed him a role in that film, followed by the punk-rocker in Valley Girl (1983), which was released first and truly launched his career.

His one-time passion for method acting reached a personal limit when he smashed a street-vendor's remote-control car to achieve the sense of rage needed for his gangster character in The Cotton Club (1984).

In his early 20s, he dated Jenny Wright for two years and later linked to Uma Thurman. After a relationship of several years with Christina Fulton, a model, they split amicably and share custody of a son, Weston Coppola Cage (b.1992).

MUSIC ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

My homey from the other side of the tracks, Mr. Asher Roth, has dropped his debut studio album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. I have it, of course, & let me just say that dude is dope. Yeah, he’s a white rapper. Yeah, he sounds a bit like Eminem, also a white rapper. But that’s basically where the similarities stop. Asher Roth’s flow is unorthodox, humorous, refreshing, & the message is quite admirable. Oh, & by the way, I love the title & the album cover. Crazy, no doubt. I put him in the same lane as creative cats like his ace Charles Hamilton, Kid Cudi, Mickey Fatcs, The Cool Kids, Kanye West, Gnarls Barkley, & a few others. That also happens to be my lane as well. Go figure. I have some interviews of him that I’ll be posting in the coming days, so be on the lookout, & whet your appetite with this article

By DAN AQUILANTE

Asher Roth was a hit at the Blender Theater -- in the crowd and onstage

WHAT if Opie busted out of Mayberry and became a rap star? You'd probably get an MC who looks a lot like Asher Roth, rap's latest phenomenon.

The 23-year-old made his NYC debut at the Blender Theater Tuesday, delivering a set that was eventful, energetic and entertaining.

The eventful part wasn't when Cee-Lo Green (the voice of Gnarls Barkley) joined him onstage to trade rhymes, but rather when the young white rapper was in the audience watching opening act Chester French.

Roth, who honed his hick-hop in rural Pennsylvania, got a taste of the street when he was sucker-punched by a guy who was subsequently dragged out of the theater by security.

Obviously, skinny Roth is tougher than he looks. Taking the stage -- on time! -- he joked with the sold-out crowd about the fight: "You know you made it when someone pays 30 bucks to smack you in the face."

The smack-barometer is telling, but Roth already has a pretty good idea he's "made it," considering that as of yesterday his

party-rap single "I Love College" had logged 36,128,311 MySpace plays and another 6 million views on YouTube.

Performed at the end of the show, the song struck a chord with hedonists -- young and old -- in the house when, with frat-boy charm, Roth rapped the lyrics, "Drink my beer and smoke my weed, but my good friends is all I need. Pass out at 3, wake up at 10, go out to eat and do it again, man, I love college, I love drinking, I love women and I love college."

Yeah, who wouldn't?

But this show, with Roth a blur of arm-waving and goofy dance moves, wasn't about that one tune. The hourlong set had a number of highlights including the marijuana motoring ode "Blunt Cruisin,' " and the very excellent "Lion's Roar" that featured vocalist Noah King on the sung verse. Cee-Lo's assistance on "Be My Self" was not only a good tune, the pairing was also an endorsement of Roth's skills.

Released this week, Roth's album is going to be one of this summer's most-listened-to records. It's titled "Asleep in the Bread Aisle," but make no mistake: He isn't bland white bread.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE PRESENTS “THE PHONE”

I haven’t peeped this yet, but JT is my ace so I’m going to definitely check it out. The trailer looks badass so I’m sure it won’t disappoint. The reality show bar isn’t the least bit high anyway, so he shouldn’t be sweating. Not to mention his starpower, & the fact that the show is on MTV

MTV's reality series, "The Phone," is a relentless, heart pounding, adrenaline ride. From executive producer Justin Timberlake, "The Phone" is an innovative, six episode series that is a genre-busting, one hour cinematic competition that simulates what it would be like for viewers to be dropped into the middle of a thrilling adventure movie.

"The Phone" is a groundbreaking game show whose blend of reality and cinematic action-adventure pulls its participants out of their everyday lives and thrusts them into a high-stakes labyrinth of engagement, suspense and intrigue as they race against time for a huge cash prize.

Each week on MTV's "The Phone," the lives of four unwitting strangers are interrupted and changed forever by a phone call where a mysterious voice invites them to participate in the game. If they choose yes by pressing "one" on their cell phones, the now new contestants on MTV's ""The Phone" begin to trigger dangerous events that propel them into their adventure and the chance to win up to $50,000.

The mysterious voice on MTV's "The Phone" pairs the contestants up into two teams and instructs them to follow a movie-like drama that leads them through a series of mental and physical challenges from hanging off the edge of Seattle's Space Needle to racing into a burning building to save a man's life. The players loyalty, courage and morality are tested on and their true nature is exposed when a surprise and shocking twist is revealed at the end of the game on MTV's "The Phone."

"The Phone" is produced by FremantleMedia North America. Justin Timberlake, David Schiff, Craig Armstrong and Rick Ringbakk are executive producers. Cecile Frot-Coutaz is executive producer. Lois Curren is creative executive in charge for MTV. The original format of MTV's ""The Phone" was devised by Park Lane Productions, represented by Absolutely Independent, The Netherlands. For Film and TV related endeavors, Justin Timberlake is represented by David Schiff at The Schiff Company, Rick Yorn and Jennifer Davisson-Killoran. MUSIC REVIEW

CHECK OUT THIS REVIEW OF KERI HILSON’S DEBUT ALBUM & TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. IS IT FIRE OR BURNED OUT??

Keri Hilson- In a Perfect World

"I got a lil' bit of thug in me," boasts Timbaland protégée Keri Hilson in the intro on her long-awaited debut. Lil' is the operative term: Hilson works up a sweat trying to come on like a hardboiled diva — promising to "get on my worst behavior" in the blippy single "Return the Favor" — but her precise, nimble R&B singing is a generic sound, carrying little menace or other stamp of individuality. Hilson has other skills, though. She's a member of the songwriting collective the Clutch, and the album's 14 songs — from the Polow Da Don-produced bumper "Get Your Money Up" to the simmering slow-jam "Make Love" — are uniformly excellent. Hilson's halfway there — she just needs a lil' more personality.
